The Waved Albatross Phoebastria irrorata, an ACAP-listed species endemic to ACAP-Party Ecuador's Galapagos Islands, has been recategorized as Critically Endangered by BirdLife International on behalf of the World Conservation Union (IUCN). For details of this decision go to www.birdlife.org/action/science/species/index.html.
The species is also listed on Appendix II of the Bonn Convention on Migratory Species (www.cms.int).
This species has been reclassified as Critically Endangered because is has an extremely small breeding range, essentially confined to one island, and evidence suggests that it has experienced a substantial recent population decline.
