# The Albatross of Kaua'i by Bob Waid

"Although they are wild seabirds, the Laysan Albatross are comfortable in the inhabited neighborhoods of the north shore of Kauai.  This [site](http://www.albatrosskauai.com/)is dedicated to teaching about these magnificent birds we are privileged to see as we go about our daily routines." - [Bob Waid](http://www.albatrosskauai.com/), Naples, Florida, USA.

The 15- minute video shows the life cycle of young albatross chicks located in [residential neighbourhoods](https://www.acap.aq/index.php/en/news/news-archive/60-2013-news-archive/1323-acap-breeding-sites-no-11-princeville-kauai-where-laysan-albatrosses-breed-in-gardens-and-on-golf-courses) on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.  The video shows the mating dance and social interaction of the adults, as well as the actual hatching of an egg and the emergence of a new chick.  The video culminates with the fledging of two chicks, their first flight leaving land to live on the open ocean for three to four years.
