Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing is known to cause high levels of seabird mortality, including of ACAP-listed albatrosses and petrels in the Southern Ocean.

 

A report* on IUU fishing by MRAG (the Marine Resources Assessment Group) and the University of British Columbia is now available at: www.mrag.co.uk/Recent_Publications.htm. The April 2008 report reviews IUU fishing on a global scale, concluding that the total value of the estimated annual catch of 11-26 million tonnes is between US$10bn and US$23 bn.
